All inclusive or Rough & Ready?
After you've chosen your windsurfing holiday spot - next is the choice between all inclusive windsurfing holiday or the land and plan approach.
Budget will probably be the biggest factor how you do it but we tend to recommend the all inclusive approach. It takes away a lot of the pre-planning and you can take advantage of the windsurfing holiday companies local knowledge. Remember, looking for a place to stay, finding car hire and any gear you may need reduces your time riding waves.

The governing body for Windsurfing in the UK is the RYA. We always recommend where possible that you try use an accredited school. If like us you prefer a warmer waters and the sun on your face then you'll be heading abroad to learn or improve. In France windsurfing courses are governed by FFVoile.
Remember Windsurfing requires a lot more technically advanced equipment than surfing so the average cost of a windsurfing holiday is usually higher. They should also have at least one safety boat for beginners.
Lastly, even the best venues in the world will have the odd day without wind. Check what the windsurfing school's policy is if there's no wind. Some take you surfing, touring or some just refund you per day.
Windsurfing Holiday Checklist
- Research windsurfing holiday locations before choosing.
- Check what included in the price quoted eg Flights, accommodation, meals, equipment, transfers etc.
- Consider factors like;
Time of travel - think about seasonal variations & sea temp.
Location of accommodation in relation to where you'll be windsurfing.
Car hire - prices, availabilty & eligibility age.
Currency - find out the local currency, are there cash machines?
- Surfing Gear - are you taking your own or do you need to hire?
- Lastly....check your current passport is valid!
